Home made disc sander

I used a 1/4hp to make a disc sander.

I designed a hub for attaching the disk . A machine shop made the hub for me . The hub had a center hole the same diameter as the motor shaft and was secured to the shaft with two setscrews.

The I bought a 12inch circular wooden cutting board and fixed it to the hub with four screws to the steel hub which had four screw holes on its face.  The fixing holes on the wooden disk were countersunk so that the screw heads were slightly below the disc surface.

The disc surfae was covered with aluminum oxide sandpaper as it lasted longer than ordinary glasspaper. Contact cement was used to stick the sandpaper to the disc.

A commercial disc sander has a table with a miter guide. I did not make a table  for my sander
